News from Epic Dance
By Claire Rawlinson
Now, we at Epic Dance know that our students are a hardy bunch, and this was proved yet again when they performed in the pouring rain at the Essex Alfresco Cinema event on the 22nd September. The weather was not kind to them, however each and every student that took part showed what true professionals they are and the show most definitely went on!
Afterwards, the students collected donations from the fabulous crowd for the school. These donations go towards paying for costumes and transport to events, so that every student has the opportunity to take part in events and competitions throughout the year. We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone for their generosity – your support really does mean everything to us.
The feedback we received from the event has been truly amazing. It was such a success that we have been asked to perform at 11 other events for Essex Alfresco Cinema, including the Christmas drive-in Movie ‘Home Alone’ in December at Prom Park in Maldon. The students are so excited already and are planning their routines!
Being a local dance school, one of the highlights of the year for our students is the Burnham Carnival and this year was our first year of taking part. Our students put on an energetic display for the crowds in the morning and were asked to return in the afternoon for an encore! They then all took part in the procession in the evening. The icing on the cake was being awarded 3rd place for Commercial Tableau, 1st place for Topical Tableau and 1st place for Junior Organisation Tableau for our entry in the procession. Everyone had a great time and it made us all so proud to see our students entertaining everyone. Here’s to next year!
This time of year we begin rehearsing hard for our Christmas show in December. This is Epic Dance’s opportunity to show off every one of our brilliant students and have a lot of fun at the same time. The theme this year is ‘A Million Dreams’ and has a few surprise takes on some traditional tales. Dates and times and ticket info will be available next month, but keep in mind, tickets sell out FAST!
Following the huge success of our summer workshops in the holidays, we have decided to run more in the October half term. There will be two days full of fun activities including a cinema trip, Halloween themed activities, dance workshops with Amy Hornsby, Katie Fowler and our Principal Carlie Boler, which will include lots of different dance styles. The workshops will take place on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd October but places are limited. The cost is £20 per day or £35 for two days. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
