Another great year for our traditional illuminated carnival. Like every year the events kicked off the first week of September with the darts and dominoes matches, hosted each year by Kenny Kerr at The New Welcome Sailor.
Members from the committee then put on their fancy dress and hit the town on a pub crawl selling raffle tickets, with a great response from the locals. This was spread over two Fridays – any excuse to get in fancy dress!
The week leading up to the big day held some fantastic family fun nights, Monday held the carnival quiz at the Village Hall, Tuesday we had the brilliant minute to win it, organised by committee members and owners of the Cabin Dairy Becca Tatlow and Kelvin Coles. After the games was the crowning of this year’s queens court: queen Chelsea Hill and princesses Summer Price and Daisy Crowe. Wednesday was the adorable bonniest baby competition with the winning babies being Hannah Beharrell and Zachery Elgee.
The judges had a hard time choosing, as all the babies were just gorgeous!
On to Thursday’s classic bingo, a great turn out at the Village Hall as always, plus the first day of Stevens Fun Fair, which all the children (and adults) love!
Saturday, the big day, started a 10am after the committee and volunteers worked hard setting up the arena and stalls. The day’s entertainment consisted of my favourite 999 races with the ambulance team winning. We had Epic Dance, belly dancers, Zumba, Disney princesses, Punch and Judy, Fight Klub drum and box, Blue Falcons and a very entertaining juggler. Although this year the procession was short, the people involved were brilliant. A great deal of effort goes into getting floats and costumes together so well done to everyone. Each year the committee can provide vehicles for the floats so why not get involved? Planning for next year’s event is already underway. Please don’t forget the carnival committee also organise Burnham’s festive fayre; make note of the date, 8th December. If you would like to join the committee, please get in touch either through our Facebook page or call our Chairman Caroline on 07980859136.
