The Burnham on Crouch Town Council comprises ten councilors, five representing the South ward and five the North. Burnham on Crouch Town Council’s affairs are administered from the Council Offices in Chapel Road by the Town Clerk, David McNeill and his assistant Sarah Grimes. Meetings of the council are held monthly and are open to the public. Burnham on Crouch Town Council also holds planning meeting twice a month and details of meeting are displayed on the five notice board in Burnham-on-Crouch, details can also be found in the Burnham Review. Members of the public do get an opportunity at the end of every meeting of Burnham-on-Crouch town council to ask questions of councillors and of the Town Clerk.

Burnham on Crouch Town Council acts on behalf of the town of Burnham in drawing matters of local concern to the relevant authorities and pushing for action. It also provides public seats, planting areas, litter bins, dog waste bins and Christmas trees and festive lighting. Burnham on Crouch Town Council owns the War Memorial site, its Offices in Chapel Road and the Allotments plus some adjoining land. Other public land is owned by Maldon District Council.

Burnham on Crouch has a civic service in June/July and a seasonal Carol service is also a feature. There is also the Mayor’s “Citizen of the Year Award”, a reception where local people are thanked for their contribution to the town. The prestigious Town Cup is presented at the end of Burnham Week, with the presentation of the St. Matthew’s Cup, also for sailing, in early autumn.

A new challenge had been set for residents and businesses – Burnham in Bloom – which is judged in July and which has been enthusiastically supported by the people of Burnham on Crouch. This has now been developed and extended in the Anglia in Bloom competition and Burnham has improved in each of its annual entries. Many local clubs and organisations in Burnham-on-Crouch are helped with financial assistance in the form of grants – all local applications are considered.

However, the main activity of Burnham on Crouch Town Council is to help keep the town a happy, secure and pleasant place for both residents and visitors.
